Warwick Man Among Providence Hostage-Taker Trio Indicted May 7

PROVIDENCE— The Providence Grand Jury reported several indictments this morning, including those against a Warwick man and two other men charged in a home invasion and hostage standoff with Providence Police March 19.

Providence police negotiators resolved the standoff without violence, according to an April 4 Providence Journal report.

The Grand Jury indicted Jose Rodriguez, 32, of Warwick, Pedro Gomez, 28, of Cranston and Andre Savage, 23, of Providence in the hostage-taking of a family in a Norwich Avenue triple-decker in Providence.

Each was charged with one count of burglary, two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon in a dwelling with the intent to rob, two counts of kidnapping, one count of kidnapping a minor, one count of assault with a dangerous weapon, three counts of using a firearm while in the commission of a crime of violence, three counts of possessing a firearm without a license, two counts of conspiracy, three counts of possession of a firearm after a conviction of a crime of violence, one count of possession of a stolen firearm, and one count of carrying a stolen firearm.

The trio is scheduled to be arraigned on May 14, 2019 in Providence County Superior Court.

Benjamin Delacruz, 32 Providence, RI

On May 7, 2019, the Providence County Grand Jury returned an indictment charging Benjamin Delacruz with possession of over one kilogram of cocaine and one count of possession with intent to deliver cocaine.

 

 The alleged acts occurred in the city of Cranston sometime on November 5, 2018. The Rhode Island State Police conducted the investigation.

 The defendant is scheduled to be arraigned on May 14, 2019 in Providence County Superior Court.

 Jorge Garcia, 36, Providence, RI

On May 7, 2019, the Providence County Grand Jury returned an indictment charging Jorge Garcia with one count of burglary, one count of breaking and entering, one count of simple assault, and one count of vandalism.

 

 The alleged acts occurred in the city of Providence sometime on September 2, 2018. The Providence Police Department conducted the investigation.

 The defendant is scheduled to be arraigned on May 14, 2019 in Providence County Superior Court.

 Sergio Cepeda, 21, Providence, RI

On May 7, 2019, the Providence County Grand Jury returned an indictment charging Sergio Cepeda with one count of first-degree robbery and one count of conspiracy.

 The alleged acts occurred in the city of Providence sometime on November 27, 2018. The Providence Police Department conducted the investigation.

 The defendant is scheduled to be arraigned on May 14, 2019 in Providence County Superior Court.

 Carlos Molina, 19, Providence, RI

On May 7, 2019, the Providence County Grand Jury returned an indictment charging Carlos Molina with one count of first-degree robbery and one count of conspiracy.

 

 The alleged acts occurred in the city of Providence sometime on November 27, 2018. The Providence Police Department conducted the investigation.

 The defendant is scheduled to be arraigned on May 14, 2019 in Providence County Superior Court.
